Virtua Tennis 4 World Tour Edition Review

It was the early 2000′s and I and a friend, John Bayan, decided to take a break from studying and hit San Jose State’s Arcade.  After playing the latest ripoff of NBA JAM John B told me, “You will love Virtua Tennis”.  Of course I said, “Tennis, are you kidding me”.  John B countered with, “You don’t even have to like Tennis to love Virtua Tennis”.  Instantly after a mere seconds of playing I was hooked and couldn’t wait for more (10 out of 10).  In 2005,  Virtua Tennis: World Tour released for the PSP and it was a solid 8 out of 10.  Then in 2006 Virtua Tennis 3 released for the PS3 and the full Arcade experince (10 of 10) was back leaving me waiting for more!  But in 2009 Virtua Tennis 2009 released for the PS3 and it was the worst Virtua Tennis I had ever played (7 out of 10).  Then of course last year (June) Virtua Tennis 4 released for the PS3 and was the new worst Virtua Tennis Ever (6 out of 10).  So I am very, very happy to report Virtua Tennis is Back with last month’s Virtua Tennis 4 World Tour Edition PS Vita release (9 out of 10)!  It is a joy to play and visually stunning to see such fluid Tennis on a handheld.  It’s almost as much fun to play as last May’s Top Spin 4 PS3 release (10 out of 10), almost.  And it is far superior to the skippable last month’s EA: Grand Slam Tennis 2 PS3 release as well.  Now is it fair to compare PS3 Tennis releases to the newest PS Vita Tennis release?  No, of course not but if you have spend $40 to purchase a Tennis Video Game you would like to know how much are you sacrificing by playing a PS Vita title compared to a PS3 title.

Honestly, we aren’t comparing apples to apples since Top Spin 4 knocked the socks of Virtua Tennis 4.  Somehow Sega got more serious with Virtua Tennis 4 World Tour Edition and stepped everything up to knocked the socks of Virtua Tennis 4.  So I guess what I am trying to say is the graphics and game play on the PS Vita is equal and looks and plays at least equal if not better than the PS3.  Now if Top Spin 4 could make a PS Vita title we would really be in business.  But in the meantime feel free and rent Virtua Tennis 4 World Tour Edition and if you really want to buy a PS Vita title right now this my personal choice as the only game I would consider purchasing.  I mean the game plays so damn fast I couldn’t even take half way decent pictures of it (I had to cut and paste pictures from random websites)!
