The Giants need a Slugger, Thome and Dye were available

Jermaine Dye ChampionThe Giants are so close to getting into the playoffs.  I don’t know why they didn’t scoop up Jim Thome and Jermaine Dye.  It is interesting the way the Giants got their team back to a playoff contender so fast.  They invested their resources into the most effective way of getting back to the playoffs, pitching.  This was the exact opposite of what the Texas Rangers did in the mid 90’s when their teams were build on sluggers and sluggers alone.

But the Giants desperately need at least one slugger on the team.   Pablo Sandoval might be the “Kung-Fu Panda” but he shouldn’t be the power of the lineup.  At best he should be hitting cleanup.  With Jim Thome or Jermaine Dye a Giant, a lot of the pressure would be taken off the rest of the lineup and freed up Sandoval to see some easier pitches.  The Giants need to open their checkbooks or they will always have this problem of being good enough for the playoffs but either not making it or being an easy first round out for any opponent.
