2012 NBA Free Agency: Golden State Warriors

Taking my advice of Buying Low and Selling High, I am very pleased the Golden State Warriors are in serious talks yet again with Big Man J.J. Hickson (yes, the same J.J. who the Cleveland Cavaliers wouldn’t trade for Amar’e Stoudemire year’s ago) after losing out on him last year when the Portland Trail Blazers stepped in and claimed him before he cleared waivers from his release from the Sacramento Kings.  Even though I like Big Man David Lee, he needs somebody to toughen him up, compete with him for his starting power forward spot and take some of the burden of him from playing so many minutes at center (when the Warriors play small ball).  Speaking of players team’s foolishly wouldn’t trade for Amar’e, the Warriors have decided not offer Stephen Curry an extension since he has ankle sprain issues the last two years.  Initially I liked that but then I thought, hey the Warriors are still trying to trade for the best center in the NBA, Dwight Howard, even though he just said he only wants to go to the Brooklyn Nets but that isn’t stopping the Houston Rockets so it’s nice to see it isn’t stopping the Warriors.  Now if the Warriors want to have any real chance of getting Howard they need to pretend that they have confidence in Curry by giving him that extension then packaging him, center Andrew Bogut, small forwards Harrison Barnes and Dorell Wright and shooting guard Klay Thompson for Dwight, Big Man Glen Davis and Swing Man Jason Richardson.  Instead of needing 90% of the season played by Bogut and Curry just to make the playoffs with their current roster.  The Warriors would instead have Dwight, Lee, J.J, Davis and Andris Biedrins as their Big Men, Brandon Rush, Richardson, Draymond Green and Richard Jefferson as their Swing Men with Nate Robinson, Charles Jenkins and a free agent point guard who wants to throw alley-oops to Superman all day long.  Speaking of which there are quite a few affordable veteran free agent points guards on the market such as Dwight’s old teammate Jameer Nelson, former Warriors Jamal Crawford and Derek Fisher as well as Kirk Hinrich and Chauncey Billups.  This might not be a Championship team but it is a 2nd round playoff team which is a lot more than I can say for the Warriors right now.
